About Me
I am a Professor of Orthopaedics at Keele University and its Institute of Science and Technology in Medicine www.keele.ac.uk. The most exciting new project is in collaboration with Patrick Warncke of Keil University in Germany, with European funding to grow an endo-cultivation joint in a patients back and then transplant it into place. See MyJoint. Jan Herman Kuiper and Suresh Sivananthan and Stefan Bajada are all rsearchers making this project happen together with a network from across Europe. Stefan is studying the ethical aspects of using autologous stem cells after selection and expansion. I am running a randomised trial of these cells in treating patients with fracture non-union. This is described on its own pages in this site as the Oscell Stem Cell Trial.
Appropriate technology for developing countries has been a long term interest. I have concentrated on energy conservation of late and built a house with this as a chief design requirement. Last year I ran an energy fair to discuss windmil use. There was a majority feeling against large windills but support for me if I wanted to build a single-home windmill. Take a look at our energy fair.
My blogs contain my thoughts like Leonardo da Vinci, Livingston, and MacEwen - all kept diaries or published writings frequently and I suspect there is an opportunity of organising one's thoughts and being able to review them that is a useful discipline. People keep blogs in the same vein, and have the advantages over the diaries of old that others can comment and give feedback. The aim is to improve things for others. Please add your thoughts, or links to your blog page, and I will endeavour to reply through this medium.
