Could a biological joint become a real possibility? I was really impressed by the ability of the team of plastic surgeons at Keil, Germany, led by Patrick Warncke, to produce a living jaw in the back of a patient that I considered this an opportunity to grow a living joint replacement. Suresh Sivananthan walked through the door into my office last year to study orthopaedics, and he had been part of that team. With Jan Hermann Kuiper he set about applying for European funding and this project is up and running!
